Television after the end of the ancillary cost privilege – this is how it goes on
Since July 1, 2024, the landlord has no longer been allowed to bill the cable connection through the ancillary costs. Since then, many in Leipzig have been asking themselves: How do I watch TV now? We will show you the options at your address – cable, Internet TV or antenna – and set everything up with you.
What has changed in cable TV?
Until the end of June 2024, the cable connection in many rented apartments ran through the ancillary costs. Since July 1, 2024, this is no longer allowed. If you want to continue watching cable TV, you need your own contract - or choose a different way. The cable socket in the apartment usually remains, it is just no longer automatically activated.
What options do I have?
Four ways are common in Leipzig. Which one suits you depends on what's in your house and how you watch TV.
Cable TV with its own contract
Via the same cable socket – depending on the house from Vodafone or PŸUR. Watch cable TV on Vodafone ·PŸUR
Television via the Internet
For example, MagentaTV or 1&1 HD TV – via your Internet connection, also with recording function.Telekom ·1&1
Antenna (DVB-T2)
With a small antenna and a suitable receiver. The public channels are free, but a fee is charged for private channels in HD.
Satellite
If a dish is allowed or is already on the roof.
What is right for me?
If you have Internet at home anyway, watching TV over the Internet is often cheap. If you don't want Internet, you can watch with a cable contract or antenna. Just bring your last utility bill or your address with you – we'll calculate the distances and honestly tell you what's worth it.

Do I have to cancel my cable connection?
If the cable connection previously ran through the ancillary costs, this has become obsolete with the end of the ancillary costs privilege – a separate cable contract is then a new contract. If you have a cable contract yourself, its notice periods apply. We are happy to look at it together.
Do I still have to pay the broadcasting fee?
Yes, the broadcasting fee is independent of how you watch TV.
Can I continue to look beyond the cable socket?
Yes, with your own contract with the cable provider in your company – in Leipzig usually Vodafone or PŸUR.
Do you help set up your TV and receiver?
Yes. We will show you everything in the store, and if you wish, our installation service will come to your home.
